Last week’s update to the iLife ‘08 suite from Apple proved to be a boon for VoiceOver users. Garage Band the suite’s recording-studio software is now radically improved in the area of accessibility. Indeed, virtually all functions and areas of the program are usable with VoiceOver, according to reports from VoiceOver users. Given the high number of visually impaired musicians, this should prove to be very exciting news. Once again, Apple has demonstrated amazing commitment to accessibility. Thank you, Apple.

Last week, Apple released Mac OS X 10.5.2, a free update to it’s Leopard operating system. The update includes a tremendous number of fixes and changes, including one that should please VoiceOver users. Stacks are now accessible via the List view. You can set a stack on the dock to display in a list by pressing the down arrow on the stack and choose "List" from the resulting menu. Next time you press enter on the stack, the stacks contents will open in a form similar to menus. Thank you Apple!
As we find other accessibility improvements to this addition of Leopard, we’ll post them.
