Shortly after we noted the reports of Google’s plans for turn-by-turn directions on the iPhone, the search giant told PCWorld.com that there are no specific plans for such support on the iPhone at this time. The source of the confusion is unclear. Google has clarified its stance that the technology will likely come to other platforms besides its own Android OS, but that iPhone is not specifically planned at this time.

Whether this is a case of widespread mis-reporting by news outlets or if Google let slip something it shouldn’t have remains to be seen. We hope that, in either case, Google does eventually provide this functionality to iPhone users.
