Google Plans Free Turn-by-Turn Navigation for iphone

23 April, 2010 @ 11:14 am by Lioncourt

Yesterday, both MacUser UK and Mashable reported that Google has confirmed at a London press conference that it will be integrating turn by turn navigation on the iPhone.

The web giant has already made this possible on the android platform and have now confirmed that the same free turn by turn will soon be available to iPhone users.

The Maps app is currently accessible to VoiceOver users, minus the visual maps. The directions given on a walking or driving route can be read. What Google is promising is a major step forward for many visually impaired users of the iPhone. Instead of purchasing an app to give them walking directions that potentially could have accessibility flaws, VoiceOver users could soon have access to a free turn by turn application that is more than likely to be accessible.

Currently, it is possible to find your current location, search for an address and see the directions in walking or driving mode accessibly.

There is currently no set date for availability.
